Holiday Cats

Aw, between eating lots of delicious food, napping and sleeping, family and friends activities and talking, I forgot 2 caturdays! Here's some more festive cats - waiting for usual blogging time to get back to normality. Great blogging news are just round the corner!
Ready for New Year's Eve party? I definitely am not! Today is the day for some resting and tomorrow I think we are going to stay at home, eating and playing board games and cards, putting ourselves on the (freezing) outdoors just for the fireworks. I wish you all a very happy new year! :)

Aah!
Io no, per niente! Buon anno a tutti! :)

Dressing room - Little Green dress

I love green dresses, and it seems this year you can find a lot of green around - together with the ubiquituous mustard and the oxblood (may I just call it bordeaux/maroon?). Since I didn't had one that was right for cold weather, I got me a green dress a couple of months back. It's a quite simple dress in ponte fabric, which is right for winter (I say no to thin clothes... I fear the cold!), it's  flattering and being quite a simple cut it's really easy to dress up or down and accessorize (nope, it's not the lacey one in these pics, since I got mine from OVS), since my wallet is quite broken and I need very versatile things that I can wear and wear again a thousand times. And then let's talk about it, why waste our money buying clothes you are going to wear once - or never!? No, we can't and we shouldn't do this, expecially in times like these.
"Who wears green trusts in his beauty" says the italian proverb... Since green seems a bit tricky to wear, but it's not that hard at all if you wear it as a neutral, pairing it with muted colors and basic colors as grey, black, beige, brown. I found it's really great with cognac color and with any brown shades, you only need to avoid adding too much brown - expecially on the legs or you are going to look as a tree! :D

Quite simple yet pretty for a date or dinner (and since this cold, a cardigan and a scarf are required!)

Or dressed down a bit with a turtleneck underneath (I love turtlenecks, I can't do without in winter).

And with a little cardigan. Simple yet pretty paired with grey (a nice color combo!), great as a dayear, for the office, for a date, for an afternoon tea, for the movies, for downtown... endless chances :)

All bundled up in layers when it's cold (plus a coat, scarf & beret if you dare to go outside!). Green is nice paired with whites and nudes/neutrals too!

Another bundled up outfit, layers and a chunky, warm cardigan, tights+overknee socks, wool scarf.

Going out at night, paired with classic black and some subtle metallic accents, or even glitter, if you like it.

How To Destroy a Xmas Tree

A tree! Indoors! With sparkling decorations! And twinkling lights! Moss smelling like a forest! Nativity scene with small figurines to hunt! And boxes! Tons of boxes! All wrapped in colored papers! And ribbons! Bows! And ornaments all around in the house! Wow!!! Thank you my human friend for this things-I-can-destroy galore, I am very grateful! And now I beg you pardon, but I am off to tear apart something... =^.^=
Alas, if your cat is a pest and you don't want him/her to destroy your tree, do not put up Xmas decorations.. It's useless to get mad at them, too, because it's entirely the human's fault - who knows for sure that the cat is going to smash, kill, exterminate everything! :D
Or, you can always put your tree where the cat could not reach it - well wishes and congrats IF you can really find a place that the cat is not getting to by jumping and following unlikely paths! :D

Un albero! Dentro casa! Con palline scintillanti! E luci intermittenti!

Peek-a-boo!

This pic with four kittens peeping from the barn door truly reminds me of my kittens when they were fluffy and cute and crazy as these above!
There were four of them: Leoncino, Lupino, Patrizio & Nerina. The four kittens of my beloved mommy-cat Bella (daughter of my other beloved cat Micia). Four little terrors running around the house, up and down on the stairs, jumping everywhere, catching any animated or inanimated object, curiously exploring here and there, putting everything in trouble, making everything fall... And that fell asleep all together in a fluffy group of kittens!
It broke my heart, but I had to give away two of them. But I know they went to special loving families, so I think they're having an happy life. My idea was to keep just the female kitty cat as I was deeply in love with her (and I still am, and vice versa!) and since the ginger was already choosen to be adopted by another cat loving family as the two other brothers... BUT. We were too in love with him as well to give it away! We kept both, Patrizio & Nerina (whose name slowly turned into Mimì!), and we couldn't be more happy. Two is better than just one!
When my Bella started to refuse her kittens (as they always do, to make them grow well), she got back at my mom's place in my country village, and she coulnd't be more happy to be back at her own place. She now has an happy cat life and I see and cuddle her when I go back in hometown!. While Patrizio & Mimì still do crazy cat things, play together, run around the house, and sleep over me at night. Normal cat routine! :D
Oh well, yes, now I got to show you what they looked like when they were kittens. Ready?

Erano in quattro: Leoncino, Lupino, Patrizio & Nerina.
 Pronti?

Dressing room - Winter layers

Un cappottino colorato, sciarpa, guanti (e berretto)....

A colorful coat, scarf, gloves (and beret)....

..with a simple sweater & skirt outfit underneath. Simple things are the best :)

Turtleneck shirt/blouse + sweater/cardigan + wool skirt + opaque tights + boots + peacoat = my daily basics in fall/winter...
As long as I try, I cannot for the life of me seem to wear anything else! But I switch to wool dresses when it's  freezing cold. Please, teach me how to wear pants or leggings as I cannot find a way! I wonder how I could spend the whole Winter wearing jeans or corduroy pants, when I was younger? A mistery, indeed. It's not just a question of evolving style, but it's mostly because I feel warmer in woolen tights than in pants, now! Even tho my corduroy pants were nice, and I miss it, now that I think about it! :)

Cat face dress

I beg you pardon, no real cats pictures today, as yesterday I found this pic via Facebook and since then the cat-face-dress-fever has started to me!

*_*

it's selling via Romwe, here the white version and here the black one, for 49.99$.

non è carinissimo?!
Lo vendono su Romwe, qui in bianco e qui in nero, per 49.99$.

Maybe it's just a bit too much to me, and I actually don't know in which occasion I would wear anything like this, with that see through mesh it's going to need something underneath as well, and truth be told I think it's actually also a bit expensive for what it is, a 100% polyester... But still, it's too darn cute! What do you think about it? Would you buy it?

meow! =^.^=

A Tale of a Vintage Full Skirt

E foto. Tante foto. Fatte e poi dimenticate.
Come queste.

I finally turn on my old laptop, the one whose cooling fan is spinning so fast that I fear the laptop would actually fly away as an helicopter, one day... It was off for long time, let's say that after the moving it was left back, waiting for a desk, promoting a more practical netbook instead, which I used in these last months (lying on the bed, of course). But the desk is long to come, and I know in that computer there is tons of things I need, basically anything I did/downloaded/saved/written in last 3 or 4 years. And pics. Lots of pics. Taken and forgotten.
As these ones.
These pics were made on last May, when I went to my little cousin's confirmation ceremony. And I wore The Skirt.
The Skirt is a 50s vintage garnment, it comes from my family, and it has a beautiful story behind...

Dressing room - Lace dress in Winter

There was a pretty lace dress last year at h&m: vintage 60s style, 3/4 sleeves, pretty buttons closure on the back, available in black or nude pink.. A lovely little number. And it was actually a surprise to discover it was made of cotton instead of those clingy, unflattering, cheap polyester materials that h&m is used to. It was 29.90€ full price and I obviously instantly made it mine, as well as most gals out there too as I think it was quite popular, judging from the multiple blogs I've seen it at! Even more than the uber popular mustard dress that they launched at same time last year, as this one was in a subtle neutral color - and flattering, may I add (much more than the polyester mustard one..). Long story short, h&m is offering again the same dress (but with short sleeves this time around). They might have noticed it was a most wanted garment... Yep, I got it myself as well last year, and worn it a couple of times - but I have to say I love it to pieces, so I'd like to see if it can be dressed down for an everyday wear (or almost everyday, since it's a lace dress after all, and still quite delicate, even when you have to wash it).

A daywear and fun (but not over the top) outfit, with colored tights, chunky scarf and cognac boots. I'd also add a nice beret (never without a beret!)

All bundled up with a camel coat, which could go for the office as well, with a cardigan or a tweed blazer.

Qui con un cappotto cammello, che volendo si adatta anche all'ufficio mettendo un cardigan o una giacca, magari in tweed, perché no?

Have you ever thought of wearing a dress as a top/blouse with a skirt above? I think it's a great idea, and it seems that this very dress is great for this purpose, perfect with a detachable peter pan collar, and it's great under a blazer as well.

Another informal version, great or for an afternoon walk downtown (or again, for the office), wearing the dress as a skirt layering a jumper/sweater and a blazer (and obviously with a coat, scarf, hat, mittens.. Temperatures are dropping down!)

And a night out paired with black and leather, but also a faux fur collar to add some warmth.

May I add the granny's advice... Wool berets and cardigans, always! To wear or to keep in your bag. Putting it on or off as needed. And a scarf, which is essential and you should always keep it around your neck. And not for charming, but to keep you warm. I know it because as soon as I take it off, I get a cold...*
So it's better to get tons of scarves and berets and cardis in each and every color, to mix and match and get some fun with your clothes when it's freezing cold.

Indossati o tenuti in borsa. Da togliere o rimettere all'occorrenza.

* PS. I did it. Last week I took off my scarf while I was running to catch the train (I was obviously late), and I got a cold. Yep. I am now facing a dreadful cold with fever. Lots of chicken soup, tea, milk & honey, and aspirins and nasal spray. I am eventually getting back to the blog in a few days with some outfits of mine, since I have at least three I took pics of and I want to post. I have no excuses to procrastinate now!

* PS. E' successo.

Black Cats

Is a black cat a symbol of bad luck? I don't think so!
They were associated to bad omens, to witches, to demons and to the devil itself. During the Middle Ages tons of cats were killed due human stupidity and prejudice: cats were missing, and without them rat population was dramatically increasing, and this concurred with the spreading of Black Death.
Even tho black cats are still associated to Halloween, luckily all these superstition are now long gone and we finally live in the cats era, where our feline friends are free to be what they are: furry, cute, friendly home felines!

Meowitches

Halloween is approaching fast, and even tho in Italy it's not an holiday really celebrate, I quite like it, and then these furry witches are too cute to pass by!

Dressing room - His edition (and a commitment)

This year I really don't have money to spend, and I actually already have way too many things - and not enough days or occasions to wear them all.. So I am not going to buy anything this fall season and do a good remix of things that are already in my closet. At least, these are my own guidelines for this season.
But after the moving, and after cleaning his closet and donating to a cat shelter most of his wool sweaters (way too ruined, and not in a cool grungy way as they were eaten by bugs and mostly unrecoverable, sigh!) my fiancée was left with not enough fall/winter garments... And now that Mr.Autumn is finally showing up, my man is going to need at least a couple of new sweaters/cardigans, and warm pants. So here's a dressing room in his edition!
10 looks that cover all necessities of stay-at-home-writer - not really for a businessman or an office employee. But my fiancée works from home and spends much of his time behind his own desk constantly writing and this wardrobe his mostly for him ;)
All pieces are versatile and can be mixed and remixed - something a man already does - and much more than a woman and with no thinking involved!
Using cardigans instead of sweates since I like them so much on men (and I'm trying to show him that they are cool, practical, comfy and versatile!)

and an all shaved, elegant look à la James Bond... because he's worth it!
e tutto bello sbarbato e elegante alla James Bond... perche lui vale! :D

I have to tell that I also prefer h&m male lines than their females collections... Their male pieces have that right feeling and mix of cooliness and classical that I really like, plus the materials seems not that cheap as in the female department. I notice that expecially when I wash his clothes. I guess it's because men do buy much less than us, and they are not that easy to convince... We women don't care to buy a total polyester dress most of the times, if it's on super sale expecially, and maybe we are never going to use it! But is it that right?
Men only buy things they need, and only when they need it.....
I aim to do that as well. But it's impossible! There will always be something too cute to pass by, somewhere, waiting for us to be picked up...
But something can be done. Low down our necessities and avoid to buy the 10th pair of black shoes if you already have it in all shapes and heel heights; buy only things you are sure to get much use out of it; avoid the trendy lines that scream "now" and look at the timeless pieces instead; don't get tempted by the low price of mid season sales if you can clearly see flaws, poor tayloring, if the clothes are unflattering on you or you are pretty sure you are not going to wear it that much or if you don't have anything to wear with; keep your closet clean and well organized, mix and match what you aready have and re-discover pretty things you once loved and maybe forgot about. And get rid of anything unwanted or doesn't fit any more.
Some are rules I always applied to and I am able to follow, some others, not yet... But I promise to do all of the above this fall/winter season. Maybe if I write it down I can do it ! :P

Me ne accorgo soprattutto quando li lavo.

Little Nemo's Google Doodle!

What a nice surprise this morning: today's interactive Google Doodle is dedicated toWinsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland, which was first published on the New York Herald on Sunday, October 15th, 1905.
Little Nemo's adventures always start when he goes to bed and starts dreaming adventures in a fantasy place called Slumberland... and always stops when the kid wakes up falling from the bed! The stories are quite simple, but Winsor McCay was a pioneer in history of comics and animation movies, and the way he narrates it, by split-screen strips and spectacular colorful drawings, was totally innovative for that time.

It was so nice to see this animated strip of Little Nemo mixed with Google! I love it when Google Doodles are this spectacular and this is one of the best ever made, so far. There's a great regard for the cartoon's peculiarity. The letters to form the "google" word are perfectly integrated within the strips that you actually almost unnotice them!
Last but not least: it has been literally years that this awesome book is in my wishlist... Anyone who wants to make me a gift? :P

So Long, Summer favorites

Finally, summer is coming to an end. Which means no more heat, but also no more flowy dresses as well. I have to say I am happy that Fall is right back the corner, as I prefer mid season climate to the heat we had this summer (and the summer before, and before...). I love Autumn.
Tho, I am going to miss the simplicity of getting dressed in just a couple of minutes with no effort, and as long as I can incorporate some of my summer frocks into fall outfits by layering with cardigans and jackets, I will miss the levity and semplicity of an outfit made just of a light dress and a pair of sandals. Not to tell I will miss my straw hats, which didn't get much use this year. Sigh... But I can't wait for beret season to be back!
Waiting for the real Fall to come (we still had 25°C at daytime in Italy, which is not normal at all in October!), I made a little collection of some lovely summer outfits by my favorite bloggers I loved during the whole spring/summer season, so to give a good farewell to Summer. In no particular order as I loved them all.

In nessun ordine particolare:

How not to love them all?
Blues and whites, so fresh and summery, are a summer favourite of mine. I just had to resist not to choose all blue outfits and put some effort in some variety.. But check out those awesome bloggers: their outfits are always great and in most cases it was so hard picking just one outfit!
And you see, I din't include any pants or jeans outfit at all. What do you need it for when you can go bare legs and just with a flowy skirt or dress?:)

Well, now it's time to let you go. So long Summer. Welcome Autumn. It's raining today. Finally you are here.

Eh sì, tutti bellissimi! Brave, ragazze.

Beh, ora è tempo di lasciarti andare. Addio Estate. Benvenuto Autunno. Oggi piove. Finalmente sei qui.
