Ed eccolo, il tanto atteso (o temuto, o odiato, o ignorato - dipende dalle circostanze) giorno di Natale è arrivato anche quest'anno. Più passano gli anni e più sento forte di appartenere alla categoria Scrooge e ritengo bazzecole le tante, troppe cose che circondano il Natale - oh se Dickens potesse vedere quello odierno, di quanto sia sempre più una festa commerciale, il "Bah! Humbug!" di Scrooge sarebbe ancor più deciso e forte! O forse il finale sarebbe completamente stravolto. Comunque...

 And so here we go, the awaited and longed for (or dreaded, or despised, or neglected - depending on circumstances) Xmas day has come this year as well. As time goes by I feel more and more as a Scrooge and I believe as humbug all those xmas-y things - oh if Dickens could see what Xmas has become in these days, how much of a commercial festivity it is now, Scrooge's "Bah! Humbug!" would be even more loud and sound! Or maybe the end of the novel would be just so much different. Oh well...

Full skirt twirling!

La gonna a ruota che volevo da secoli ed è cucita in casa!
L'ha cucita mia mamma ovviamente, ma come per l'altra a pois, ho assistito al processo e persino proceduto al taglio della stoffa. Lo so, scopro l'acqua calda, ma è una vera soddisfzione veder nascere un capo sotto le proprie mani, vorrei tanto essere meno incerta per quanto riguarda il cucire vero e proprio, ma prima o poi imparerò (mi devo convincere di non essere una frana). Per ora ho solo fatto qualche orlo e imbastitura... e non è venuto nemmeno malissimo. Prima o poi. Ma torniamo alla gonna! Visto come gira gira gira? :)

The full skirt I have been wishing for years is now mine, and it's handmade!
It was sewn by my mom, but as for the polka dots full skirt I attended the whole process and even cut off the fabric myself. It's a real satisfaction to see something coming up from our hands, I would really like to learn more and not being uncertain and clumsy as I am. By now I only sewn some hems and did outlines and cuts, and it ain't bad at all, but I wish and I would really like to acquire some expertise in sewing.
But let's get back to the skirt! See how it spins and twirls? :)

Handmade Full Skirt (in polka dots)

Gonna a ruota, longuette, a pois e fatta a mano, che cosa chiedere di più? Tagliata e cucita e indossata immediatamente!
La storia inizia con uno scampolo di stoffa grigia a pois preso due o tre anni fa pensando di farci qualcosa un giorno. Avevo sempre immaginato che sarebbe diventato un vestitino, e poi l'illuminazione: c'era abbastanza stoffa per fare una gonna a ruota! E ho colto l'occasione al volo per imparare anche qualcosa osservando la mia mamma al lavoro sulla gonna (o meglio, sulle gonne: questa, e anche un'altra che vi mostrerò prossimamente). Quest'estate in effetti ho provato per la prima volta a cucire seriamente, ho anche fatto l'orlo a una camicia da notte, prima imbastita e poi cucita a macchina. Sì lo so, è roba da poco, e non è certo un lavoro perfetto,  però tra errori e tentativi facciamo progressi eh, pian piano. In fondo sono una principiante totale, non credo di aver mai fatto di più di cucire (malamente) un calzino bucato o mettere un bottone! La gonna non mi sono sentita di cucirla, la stoffa è sì sintetica, ma un po' delicata e scivolosa, però  ho proceduto io al taglio. Emozionante vedere il capo prendere forma sotto le proprie mani. Devo proprio imparare a cucire per bene!

Full skirt, longuette, polka dots and handmade, could a girl ask for more? Cut and sewn and instantly worn.
The story starts with a remnant of cloth in a nice polka dots print I bought a couple of years back and left back awaiting for a nice idea. I always thought to make a dress out of it and then the inspiration come: there was enough cloth for a full skirt! And I took advantage of the fact I was at hometown to learn some basic sewing by watching my mom at work with this skirt (and another one I will show you next time).
This summer I had my first hemming experience with a simple night gown, surely not a great job but between errors and trials I am learning something new and I was satisfied by the result - I am a total newbie at sewing, I don't think I ever sew anything more than a botton before. I didn't feel like sewing the full skirt hemming as well (it was requiring a bit more professional experience than mine), but I proceeded with the cut, and it was a great feeling looking at something moulding under your hands. I really would like to learn sewing at this point!
