42 è La Risposta alla Domanda Fondamentale sulla Vita, l'Universo e Tutto Quanto. E' chiaramente una beffa, perché il Supercomputer, dopo 7 milioni e mezzo di anni di elaborazione, dà come risultato alla Domanda un semplice 42. No, non sono impazzita! Sto parlando di Guida Galattica per Autostoppisti di Douglas Adams, di cui oggi ricorre il compleanno, celebrato anche da uno speciale Google Doodle (in verità un po' criptico e a mio parere difficile da interpretare per chi non abbia letto il libro!). Il doodle mostra la sala comandi della Cuore d'Oro, la nave ad improbabilità, con gli oggetti peculiari come il tè e l'asciugamano verde di Arthur Dent, la cartella di Ford Prefect e la famosa Guida Galattica che compongono le lettere di Google, e all'interno dello schermino appare la scritta don't panic! un tormentone del romanzo. Le scenette si svolgono al suo interno, invero un po' sacrificate perché troppo piccine... Ma c'è tutto, dal Babelfish al supercomputer, e mi ha fatto sorridere. Guida Galattica per Autostoppisti è uno di quei libri che tutti dovrebbero leggere perché non si tratta di fantascienza tout court, ma di sano humor inglese che prende in giro tutti i clichè della fantascienza, pieno di nonsense e battute folgoranti. Una lettura divertentissima che consiglio davvero a tutti!

42 is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. It's clearly a joke, since the supercomputer takes 7½ million years to compute and check the answer, which turns out to be 42. No, I'm not going insane! I am talking about The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, whose birthday was today celebrated also with a special Google Doodle (even tho I think it was a bit cryptic and somehow hard to understand for those who didn't know the book!). The doodle shows the ship Heart of Gold, powered by an infinite improbably drive, with objects such Arthur Dent's cup of tea and his green towel, and Ford Prefect's satchel with the Galactic Guide composing Google's lettering, and within the screen appears the text don't panic! The sketches perform inside the screen, a little bit sacrified in my opinion since it's so tiny... But everything is there, from Babelfish to supercomputer, and it made me laugh out loud. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is one of those books that everyone should read since it's not about science fiction tout court, but really some funny humor kidding about science fiction cliches, full of nonsense and brilliant dialogues. I really advice everyone who didn't read it yet to give it a go, you won't regret it.

Little Nemo's Google Doodle!

What a nice surprise this morning: today's interactive Google Doodle is dedicated toWinsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland, which was first published on the New York Herald on Sunday, October 15th, 1905.
Little Nemo's adventures always start when he goes to bed and starts dreaming adventures in a fantasy place called Slumberland... and always stops when the kid wakes up falling from the bed! The stories are quite simple, but Winsor McCay was a pioneer in history of comics and animation movies, and the way he narrates it, by split-screen strips and spectacular colorful drawings, was totally innovative for that time.

Che bella sorpresa stamattina aprendo internet: il Google Doodle interattivo di oggi è dedicato a Little Nemo di Winsor McCay, una striscia a fumetti apparsa per la prima volta Domenica 15 Ottobre 1905 sul New York Herald. (Little Nemo è apparso anche in Italia nel 1910 sul Corriere dei Piccoli col nome "Bubi").
Le storie di Nemo si svolgono tutte quando va a dormire (spesso avendo mangiato troppo formaggio) e inizia a sognare avventure in un paese fantastico dove accadono cose meravigliose, ma anche terribili... e terminano quando il bimbo si sveglia cadendo dal letto! Storie molto semplici, ma narrate con una tecnica molto innovativa fatta di strisce suddivise in split-screen e dai disegni spettacolari nati dalla fantasia di Winsor McCay, un pioniere nella storia dei fumetti e del cinema d'animazione.

Google Doodle tribute to Little Nemo

It was so nice to see this animated strip of Little Nemo mixed with Google! I love it when Google Doodles are this spectacular and this is one of the best ever made, so far. There's a great regard for the cartoon's peculiarity. The letters to form the "google" word are perfectly integrated within the strips that you actually almost unnotice them!
Last but not least: it has been literally years that this awesome book is in my wishlist... Anyone who wants to make me a gift? :P

E' carinissimo vedere una striscia animata di Little Nemo mescolata così bene con Google. Amo quando i Google Doodle sono così spettacolari e questo è in assoluto uno dei migliori. L'integrità del fumetto è rispettata appieno. L'inserimento delle lettere che formano la parola "google" è assolutamente omogeneo all'interno delle strisce, che quasi non ci si accorge della loro presenza!
E un'ultimissima cosa: sono letteralmente anni che questo bel volume è nella mia lista dei desideri... C'è qualche anima buona che me lo regali? :P
